About this deal

Ensuring that your Dell monitor is setup properly - assembling the monitor stand and setting up the monitor ergonomically, connecting the cables and organizing them, will only help make the viewing experience the best it possibly can be. And you may think you can buy two decent curved screens with the same (or more) resolution than a single U3419W. But while that’s true, if you want a single screen and no annoying bezels interrupting your desktop, then an ultrawide is the answer.

Be aware that you’ll need a suitable graphics card that can output 10-bit colour and compatible software too: it isn’t as simple as you might imagine. The USBs can all be used to charge devices. As for the USB-C, it features a power-delivery rating of up to 90 watts, and thus can perform high-speed charging of, say, a laptop (while, as mentioned, also allowing data transfer over the cable). In contrast, the Asus PA34VC has fewer USB 3.0 ports, but it adds a second USB-C port.

Since 2004, I have worked on PCMag’s hardware team, covering at various times printers, scanners, projectors, storage, and monitors. I currently focus my testing efforts on 3D printers, pro and productivity displays, and drives and SSDs of all sorts. When using the DP-to-HDMI dongle to connect from the monitor to the computer, the monitor will not support the YCbCr color format The panel has a narrow bezel, about a quarter of an inch wide all around. Including the stand, the U3419W measures 16.4 by 32 by 8.9 inches (HWD), with the height extending to 20.9 inches when the stand is fully raised. Together, the panel and stand weigh 18 pounds.

The Dell Ultrasharp 34 Curved USB-C monitor is definitely a pretty piece of technology with the sleek design in line with Dell’s UltraSharp line of monitors. It features a cure radius of 1900r and WQHD 3440 x 1440 native resolution. The thin bezel along the outside is a feature I find really nice. It’s about as seamless as possible with the display. Dell U3419W supports USB Type-C Alternate Mode with DisplayPort DP 1.2. Verify if the USB Type-C on the PC supports Alternate Mode with DisplayPort 1.2

Dell’s factory tuning of the Dell U3419W is once again top-notch, giving us an IPS panel that can cover 98% of the sRGB gamut. Average accuracy is superb as well at Delta E 1.69, meaning there are no visible variances in almost every shade available to the display. The panel’s FRC-augmented 10-bit depth helped a lot in this regarding, making the monitor ideal of photo editing and the like. To learn more about connecting your monitor to the PC, refer to the Dell knowledge-base article How do I connect a monitor to a PC?. Use the buttons at the bottom of the monitor to access the On-Screen Display (OSD) menu of the monitor. To access the On-Screen Display (OSD) menu, press Button 3 ( Figure 1) at the bottom of the monitor. Always view from the center of the screen for optimal viewing performance. Turn on Uniformity Compensation Motion handling isn’t the Dell U3419W’s strongest suit since it only has a 60Hz refresh rate and a non-gaming response time spec. However, the panel somehow kept up with moderate movements with blurs and smudges only showing up when you pan the screen with a bit of speed. Frankly, this is all reasonable for a 60Hz variant because if wanted better you’d have to go with a 120Hz option like the Alienware AW3418DW.

If you need a huge display for editing video, accurate colours and USB-C, then Dell’s curved ultrawide U3419W is a fantastic choice. It’s undoubtedly expensive, but it it an awesome monitor. There’s no noticeable ghosting, and for most games outside of first-person-shooters, the response time and refresh rate will be perfectly adequate. And games which support the ultrawide aspect ratio – including Forza Horizon 4 – look epic. Verdict Change the input color format to PC RGB or YPbPr in the Color Settings On-Screen Display Menu (OSD). Some USB devices like external portable HDD require higher electric current; connect the device directly to the computer. Jim has been testing and reviewing products for over 20 years. His main beats include VPN services and antivirus. He also covers smart home tech, mesh Wi-Fi and electric bikes.A pair of 2-watt speakers is built into the U3419W. They are decent-sounding, if a tad soft. A 3.5mm audio-out port is available should you want to use headphones or connect to powered, external speakers. Press Button 1 or Button 2 to highlight Uniformity Compensation in the menu and press Button 3 to change mode to ON. Turn off your monitor and reconnect the video cable: then turn on both your computer and the monitor. It’s wonderful when editing video as there’s so much real-estate, and the resolution is plenty high enough. The U3419W is an upgrade from an earlier Editors' Choice model from Dell, the UltraSharp 34 Curved Monitor (U3417W), the main difference being the addition of the USB Type-C port. It's a feature that many new Dell monitors, as well as some from other manufacturers, are incorporating.Jun 28, 2019

U3419W has a curved screen, hence optimal viewing position should be from the center of the screen. Due to the screen curvature, some corners of the screen may appear slight yellowish or pinkish, especially when displaying a dark image in a dark room. This is normal monitor behavior for curved screen and typically does not affect overall viewing performance. Many ultrawide monitors have stands with feet at the corners, but Dell’s central foot design means the U3419W takes up very little of your desk. Yes, the display itself is very wide: it measures 81.4 cm from left to right, but the stand won’t stop you using the actual space on your desk. The button farthest to the right is the on/off button, while the button next to it accesses the main menu. The other three let you navigate the menu system to control brightness, contrast, input source, and a host of other settings. You can switch among six preset Picture modes: Standard, Movie, Game, Color Temperature, Custom Color, and ComfortView. This section provides information on troubleshooting steps that can help resolve the most common issues with the Dell U3419W monitor. Alternatively, to learn more about troubleshooting common issues on Dell monitors, refer to the Dell knowledge-base article Troubleshooting Display or Video Issues on a Dell Monitor. Common Problem A few permanently bright or dark pixels are considered normal by industry standards. The exact number of pixels allowed varies depending on the monitor. Refer to Dell Monitor Quality and Pixel Policy for more details. As this monitor also leverages Dell Display Manager, a detailed write up of the software can be found here in the Usability and Features section of our prior curved monitor review. However, a unique feature I would like to highlight about the Dell U3419W monitor is the Picture By Picture (PBP) functionality. When setup for PBP the monitor takes input from two different PC sources and displays them side by side on one monitor. This is a feature I’ve never seen before in a monitor and while in a way it is similar to having a dual monitor setup PBP is an intriguing new technology for those who utilize multiple PC’s. Additionally, the Keyboard, Video, Mouse (KVM) feature pairs nicely with PBP and lets you toggle and control two PC’s with only one mouse and keyboard. Dell U3419W Design and Build If you haven’t used an ultrawide monitor before, it’s quite an experience. More so if your first happens to be a 34-inch model with a curved screen. And that’s what the U3419W offers: an immersive screen that practically fills your peripheral vision. Subjectively, the image looks fantastic, with rich, bold colours and great uniformity across the entire panel. There’s very little evidence of light leakage and, being and IPS panel, wide viewing angles. Additional monitor information like the model number, firmware version and Service Tag can be accessed from the monitor's OSD (On Screen Display).
